More Show Promotion Techniques

Posted on 21 December 2009 by Dr. Robert White

Promoting your podcasts and shows is most likely on the top of the list when it comes to producing your new media projects. In this episode of Talkshoe Support LIVE!, we will discuss some techniques that you may or may not have thought about.

Here are some ideas that will be discussed during this episode:

Podcast promotion should be approached with the same tactics as website promotion. Identifying and informing your audience will increase communication and dialogue. Podcasting is a great new medium, but creating a podcast is only half of the work. Promoting a podcast is equally critical to it’s success.

1. Educate the Public.
It is important to remember that podcasting is a relatively new technology and not everyone understands or knows what podcasting is. It is particularly important to educate users if your audience is not technical. Not only is it important to explain what a podcast is, but it is equally important to explain how your podcast will help listeners. Instruction on how users can listen to podcasts should also be included.

2. Graphic
Add a graphic to your website to let website visitors know that a podcast is available for your content. Colorful graphics have become the signature to alert listeners that podcasts and RSS feeds are available. The podcast flags were initially bright orange rectangles but as the popularity has grown, webmasters have bent the rules a bit.

A free online RSS graphic tool is available that allows users to quickly customize buttons by selecting the text and the color scheme of the button enabling webmasters to coordinate their podcast flag to match their website color scheme. Graphics experience is not required. Simply select alternative colors and insert text to personalize the feed graphics.

Online Graphics Tool – http://www.feedforall.com/public/rss-graphic-tool.htm or choose ready made graphics from: http://www.feedforall.com/podcasting-graphics.htm .

3. Descriptive Content
Be sure the podcast RSS feed contains enough information related to the contents of the podcasts to grab the interest of listeners. The description should be keyword rich. A link to the audio file should be included in the description field. The audio file link is a great way for listeners to sample a podcast.

4. Press Release
Send a press release about the podcast. In addition to distributing the press release to editors, be sure to submit the release to free online press release directories.

5. Podcast Directories
Submit podcasts to the podcast directories. Podcast directories contain podcasts that cover a wide variety of topics. Inclusion in the podcast search engines and directories will tap a whole new audience.

6. Consistent Theme / Interesting Content
The last thing you want to do is to turn off listeners who have subscribed. Provide consistently formatted and consistently themed audio files. Interesting content that is consistently presented will gradually increase your listening base.

7. Create a Community
Encourage feedback and dialogue with listeners. Listen to the feedback of listeners and test their suggestions. Remember the podcast is for them not you.

8. Auto-Discovery
Include auto-discovery tags in the HTML header of the web page. Some podcasting and RSS readers will automatically detect that an RSS feed or podcast is available if such auto-discovery tags are included in the web page header tags.

9. Add A Podcast Icon
Add a standard “podcast” icon to the website. The icon should appear “above the fold”, meaning that the website visitor should not have to scroll down in order to see it. The standardized orange icons are symbolic of podcasts, and podcast listeners will instantly know that a podcast is available when they see such an icon. The icon should link to the URL of the podcast feed.

10. Submit To Podcast Search Engines And Directories
There is a large and growing number of search engines and directories that are specific to podcasting. Submit your podcast to all the podcasting search engines and podcasting directories.

11. Use All Means Available For Promotion
Use all of your existing communication channels to let your audience know that a podcast is available. Be sure to include a mention of the podcast in any email signatures, newsletters, and forum posts.

12. Optimize Transcript
Create a show transcript as part of the RSS feed, and include important keywords from the podcast in the show transcript. The show transcript should be optimized for search engines. Use standard search engine optimization techniques.

13. Optimize ID3 Tags
Use search engine optimization techniques when optimizing your ID3 tags, so your sound files will be easy to locate via the various audio search engines.

If you are spending the time and energy to publish a regular podcast, make sure to give it the exposure it deserves. So, be sure to cover all of your bases!

This is not an all inclusive list by any stretch of the imagination. We will discuss even more ways during the show, so be sure to tune in live or listen to this episode in the player below!

WordPress As A Blogging Platform

Posted on 16 May 2009 by Dr. Robert White

Many times in past episodes, you have heard me mention using WordPress, not only for blogging, but as a web site too. Since it’s early days, WordPress has developed into, what many feel, is the Number One software for blogging.

Tonight, we will discuss using WordPress as a platform for your podcast. No, not to host your podcast, but to give your podcast an additional presence in the Internet Real Estate Arena.

To begin with, let’s talk about what WordPress is. WordPress is a software package that you run on the Internet and it is commonly known as a Content Management System or CMS. With the availability of literally thousands of plugins and themes, you can easily make your WordPress site do anything you need and look completely different from the millions of other WordPress sites running today.

Podcaster Training and it’s parent site, The NMP Network, each operate a WordPress site. Using a News Style or Magazine Style Theme, these sites do not resemble a typical blog, but they are organized and easy to use. Along with several plugins, oh, a plugin is a smaller extension program that adds functionality and normally provides a specific task to the site, each site has lots of features not normally found in your typical blog. Again, giving a unique perspective to your site.

Now, to bring a very unique perspective to this discussion, Jeff Chandler from WordPress Weekly is with us tonight and I hope he will share his insights on this topic with you.

We discussed the various themes and plugins that Jeff, Josh and myself use and had some input from a new listener about his site and how he uses WordPress.

You will definitely want to listen to this episode to find out more and be sure to tune into Jeff’s WordPress Weekly show on Talkshoe every Friday Night at 8:00pm EST (or you can at least subscribe to his RSS Feed so that you don’t miss my show!) :)

Be sure to follow Podcaster Training on Twitter @podcasttraining and Jeff @wptavern and Josh @buddemedia

3 Reasons Why Adsense Is Essential For Content Sites

Posted on 28 February 2009 by Dr. Robert White

[ad]
To know why Adsense is essential for your content sites is to know first how this works.

The concept is really simple, if you think about it. The publisher or the webmaster inserts a java script into a certain website. Each time the page is accessed, the java script will pull advertisements from the Adsense program. The ads that are targeted should therefore be related to the content that is contained on the web page serving the ad. If a visitor clicks on an advertisement, the webmaster serving the ad earns a portion of the money that the advertiser is paying the search engine for the click.

The search engine is the one handling all the tracking and payments, providing an easy way for webmasters to display content-sensitive and targeted ads without having the hassle to solicit advertisers, collect funds, monitor the clicks and statistics which could be a time-consuming task in itself. It seems that there is never a shortage of advertisers in the program from which the search engine pulls the Adsense ads. Also webmasters are less concerned by the lack of information search engines are providing and are more focused in making cash from these search engines.

The first reason why Adsense is essential for content sites is because it already has come a long way in understanding the needs of publishers and webmasters. Together with its continuous progression is the appearance of more advanced system that allows full ad customization. Webmasters are given the chance to choose from many different types of text ad formats to better complement their website and fit their webpage layout.

The different formatting enables the site owners the possibility of more click through from visitors who may or may not be aware of what they are clicking on. It can also appeal to the people visiting thus make them take that next step of looking up what it is all about. This way the people behind the Adsense will get their content read and making profit in the process.

The second reason is the ability of the Adsense publishers to track not only how their sites are progressing but also the earnings based on the webmaster-defined channels. The recent improvements in the search engines gives webmasters the capability to monitor how their ads are performing using customizable reports that has the capacity to detail page impressions, clicks and click-through rates. Webmasters and publishers can now track specific ad formats, colors and pages within a website. Trends are also easily spotted.

With the real-time reporting at hand, the effectiveness of the changes made will be assessed quickly. There would be time to sort out the contents that people are making the most clicks on. The ever-changing demands would be met while generating cash for the webmasters and publishers. The more flexible tools are also allowing webmasters to group web pages by URL, domain, ad type or category, which will provide them some accurate insight on which pages, ads and domains are performing best.

The last and final reason is that the advertisers have realized the benefits associated having their ads served on targeted websites. Thus increasing the possibility that a prospective web surfer will have an interest in their product and services. All because of the content and its constant maintenance. As opposed to those who are no using Adsense in their sites, they are given the option of having other people do their content for them, giving them the benefit of having successful and money-generating web sites.

Adsense is all about targeted content, the more targeted your content is, the more target the search engines’ ads will be. There are some web masters and publishers who are focused more on their site contents and how best to maintain them rather than the cash that the ads will generate for them. This is the part where the effectiveness is working its best.

There was a time when people were not yet aware of the money to be achieved from advertisements. The cash generated only came into existence when the webmasters and publishers realized how they can make Adsense be that generator. In those days, the content were the most important factors that is taken quite seriously. It still is. With the allure of money, of course.

Identify With Your Domain Name

Posted on 09 February 2009 by Dr. Robert White

To locate and register your own domain name, visit GraiteSites Services!

Use common sense when choosing a domain name because your domain name, or URL, can have an impact in both the online and offline marketing of your web-site. Long or difficult to spell domain names can make people ignore your web site and it has to be pretty good for them to stick with it (for an example, go to www.thedolphinsmakemecry.com website. Short domain names register better with people’s memory and are easy to remember.

Obtain a domain name that will help you in your marketing niche and strategy. Like I stated before, you can use your business name as your URL. If your business name is already taken by someone else then get a URL name close to what you are doing. Purchasing a business name domain name isn’t the only way to go, and when a keyword domain name could do just fine.

If you plan on using the .net extension, you may want to wait on deciding your name until after you have found an available domain name that is suitable to your type of business. If you follow the steps below, you should be okay in identifying your name brand to the internet community.

Structure Your Brand Name – Put your domain name on your letterhead, business card, printed materials; put it on your phone recording, the side of your car; don’t forget to include it with your email.

Keep it Short & Memorable – Don’t get a URL that uses all 26 letters of the alphabet.

Secure a .com URL – I strongly recommend purchasing a .com domain name as opposed to a .net, .info, .biz or anything else. If your chosen domain name is not available in a .com, keep looking until you find one that isn’t taken. There is nothing wrong with the other extensions but when you have a .com extension, it sounds like you’ve been on the net a long time.

Remember, your domain name is an extension of your business and your brand of product or service.

What is Web Hosting?

Posted on 05 February 2009 by Dr. Robert White

For the best prices on web hosting and domain names, visit GraiteSites Services.

faqs_billboard
A web hosting service provides a service that allows individuals and businesses to post web pages to the internet. A web hosting service provider sells or for free (with advertisements on the web page) is a business that provides the servers and technologies to view web-sites on the internet.

Web hosting services are services that customers can utilize after they have purchased monthly dial up or broadband services that allow them access to the internet. Web hosting services use hosting and client architecture to load content to the server so web pages and information can be viewed on the internet in its original HTML format.

A web hosting company will offer clients access to a server that will provide the clients’ content to individuals on the World Wide Web after they make a URL or domain name request. To view pages on the web, you must have a web browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator to request the web page from the server after you have purchased internet access.

Web sites are pages that are stored on a computer called a server. The server is a part of a network of computers on the internet or World Wide Web that allows users of the internet to reach your site anywhere in the world at anytime. The internet is open 24 hours, seven days a week around the clock.

Host computers are configured so that when your URL or domain name is typed in, the address will use a pointer routine (look for the address from terminal to terminal) until it reaches the computer that hosts your web-site. Then, if all is okay, your web site should display itself on the users screen.

Hosting companies require that you buy your URL or domain name first before you purchase hosting services. Most hosting companies have a package that will allow you to buy the domain name and hosting at the same time.

It’s not mandatory that you purchase your domain name from your web host, however, many web hosting services offer domain name registration services too.

When you purchase web hosting from GraiteSites, you also have the opportunity to pickup a domain name at the same time, thus saving you not only time, but money too!

Writers, Make Money by Creating and Selling Private Label Articles

Posted on 18 January 2009 by Dr. Robert White

[ad#twobeams]
Are you a freelance writer looking for work? In the United States, there are thousands, if not millions, of individuals who are making a career as a freelance writer. The only problem with this is that there are a limited number of money making opportunities. As the internet has increased in popularity, so have the number of ways that clients are able to obtain content for their websites. If you find yourself looking for ways to pay your bills, you may want to examine private label articles and what they can do for you.

When you create private label articles, you will not need to have a client. Instead of being told what to write, you can write on any topic that you desire. However, as you are most likely already aware of, it is best to write articles on popular topics. Website owners are the most common buyers of content articles. This is because original content may help to increase their search engine rankings, increase their website’s visitor count, and make their website more interesting. In most cases, website owners only purchase content that is popular at the moment. That is why it is a good idea to make sure you are writing marketable articles.

Traditionally, after you write your own articles, you will begin searching for a buyer. If you have already tried selling your articles this way, you are probably aware that it is not as easy as it sounds. Finding buyers will not only take time, but it may also take money. In the past, if you didn’t have time or money you would be out of luck. Now, you can allow others to sell your content for you. This is done by making the private label resell rights to your content available for purchase.

With private label resell rights, someone will buy the resell rights to your articles, often in large quantities. It will then be their responsibility to market and sell them. Depending on the agreement you and the buyer make, the buyer may be able to claim the content as their own. In addition to claiming your content, they may also be able to alter it. If you do not want your content altered, you will just have to outline it as a stipulation in the user agreement.

When offering your article rights up for sale, your first thought may be to keep everything the same, including your name as the author. While there are advantages to doing this, it may have an impact on how much you are able to sell your resell rights for. Many buyers prefer purchasing a product, including content articles, which they can not only alter, but claim as their own. By allowing this to take place, you should be able to charge more money for the resell rights.

If you are interested in selling the resell rights to your content, you will have to find a prospective buyer. This is often compared to finding a buyer for your own articles, but it is often easier. As soon as you make your opportunity available, you should begin to see results. This results will often be inquires or sample requests. If a prospective buyer is pleased with what they see, they may agree to purchase the private label resell rights to your content; thus ending your responsibility.

If you are unsure about this unique money making opportunity, you may want to, at least, give it at try. If you are unable to sell the rights to your private label articles you can then return to what you were doing before. One great source to present your articles to is www.ArticleWholesaler.com, they buy a large volume of articles. If you do find success, as many writers have, you don’t have to stop there. You could continue to write content articles only to sell their resell rights. In fact, if you had a successful relationship with a previous buyer, there is a good chance that the buyer may return for more of your handcrafted articles.

Using Private Label Article Resell Rights to Your Advantage

Posted on 15 January 2009 by Dr. Robert White

[ad#twobeams]
In recent years, there has been a large amount of focus placed on private label resell rights. Private label resell rights are when an individual agrees to purchase the right to resell the product, often from the product’s original creator. The buyer of those resell rights is then able to make a profit every time they sell that product or a version of it. Many individuals have capitalized on the success of private label resell rights and now you may also be able to.

If you were to search the internet for private label resell rights offers, it is likely that you will find an unlimited number of offers and business opportunities. Most of those offers are likely to include software programs or e-books. While private label resell rights exist for a wide variety of different products, some products are better known than others. In a way, some products are considered “well kept secrets,” if you are interested in profiting from one of those secrets, you are advised to examine private label articles and the resell rights that you can purchase for them.

When it comes to private label articles, many of them are written by professional freelance writers and in large quantities. Many of these writers enjoy writing the articles, but they do not enjoy trying to sell them. That is where the resell right opportunity develops. Instead of selling their articles to a prospective buyer, they sell their articles to someone who has the time and the knowledge needed to the make sales.

If you are interested in taking part in this money making opportunity, you are encouraged to get started. One great source for buying articles to resell is www.ArticleWholesaler.com. As of right now, many entrepreneurs are looking to obtain the private label resell rights to e-books or software programs. Many are not even aware that there is a large market for mass content articles. In fact, you may even be wondering who you would go about selling those articles to and how. In short, the answer is everyone. You will want to target the general public, but there are groups of individuals that you should, without a doubt, target. These individuals are webmasters.

Webmasters are known as individuals that have either created or are currently operating a website, often times that website is their own. In today’s world, websites need to have interesting content, often in the form of articles. Many times, this content is used to make a website more user friendly, but other times it is used to increase a website’s search engine ranking. Search engine ranking is important because, in a way, it determines how many internet users will be able to make it to the site. Depending on the type of website in question, a high search engine ranking may help a webmaster earn more money.

There is also a chance that you are concerned with selling the content. The internet is full of duplicated content and many webmasters prefer to purchase their own unique articles, but that does not mean that you cannot give them what they want. When a freelance writer places their article resell rights up for sale, many writers are giving up ownership to those articles. In a way, those articles become yours. This means that you should be able to alter them in anyway that you see fit. The more you alter an article, bit by bit each time, the more you can sell it as unique content.
Once you have obtained the resell rights to a collection of articles, you can then begin to shop for buyers. There are a number of different ways that you can do this. You can seek out potential webmasters by viewing their online websites. If the content you have is suitable, you may be able to make a sale. You can also advertise a collection of articles through online classified ads or by placing them for sale on online auction websites. The method of sale you choose will all depend on how much you want to work and how much money you want to make.

To make the most out of this opportunity, you are urged to act fast. It won’t be too long before others realize what a money making opportunity it is to buy and resell private label articles.

Podcaster Training: Using Audio on your Web Site or Blog

Posted on 02 January 2009 by Dr. Robert White

WAV
Image via Wikipedia

[ad#rssannouncer]
Happy New Year everyone and welcome to our first episode of 2009! Last week, we wrapped up our Phases of Podcasting Series and will begin the new year with some individual training and will prepare for our next big series, Bridging The Gap Between Mediums. This new series will take us through the three big mediums, Audio, Video and Blogging, and will show you how to convert your listeners to readers, readers to viewers, well, you get the idea I think. That series will begin soon, so I will keep you posted!

Tonight, we will talk about using audio on your web sites or blogs. By using audio, I am talking about embedding a flash audio or an MP3 by using a special flash converter program or by using a special plugin for WordPress, such as the BluBrry Player, that will allow you to let your visitors or readers play back your audio easily.

To begin with, we will discuss using flash on your web site or blog. Using flash will not only enable you to embed your audio, but it will allow you to easily stream large audio files without the visitor or reader having to wait a long time for the file to download before they can begin to enjoy it.

How do you get an audio file into a flash format? The best way to do this, is to use a flash converter program, such as Web Audio Plus, that will take a .WAV or .MP3 formatted audio file and with a couple of clicks of the mouse, you can choose the player style and then the program not only gives you the embed code, but will encode the flash file for you to upload to your site and let your visitors start using it right away!

Now, if you are using WordPress, the self hosted version, then you can add a plugin for podcasting such as the one from BluBrry, that will enable you to upload your MP3 file or actually just add the http line to the player and it will stream it from another source. For example, when I want to add the audio file to my show notes, I use the BluBrry Player and add the http line that directs the player to stream from the Talkshoe download location. In this way, I don’t have to worry about uploading the file to another location or worry about hosting an additional file somewhere else, as the BluBrry plugin will automatically use the http line that I entered to pull this file from whatever location I have entered into it. The file must be in an MP3 format for the player to work correctly in this fashion. Some audio plugins will also stream a video in the same fashion, so check with your plugin that you are using before attempting this to insure that it will work properly for you.

Now, if you are using Talkshoe to record your MP3 file and you want to use it in a flash format, you will need to download the MP3 file to your PC and then convert it and then upload the new flash files and install the embed code to your site or blog. Otherwise, you will need a microphone hooked up to your PC’s soundcard and you will need something like the free audio editor called Audacity so that you can record your files and then export them to either a WAV or MP3 format. If you use the MP3 format, then you can easily upload this file to your site and use the WordPress plugin to stream it or with the WAV or MP3 format, you can convert either of these to flash using the Web Audio Plus software. I might mention that this software is for PC’s only, so sorry Mac people! I’m sure that there is a similar program available for Mac to convert audio to a flash format. Again, since I’m not a Mac, I don’t have any suggestions for this but I’m sure someone knows of one somewhere!

Another way to use audio on your site or blog is to record a short 1 or 2 minute greeting that you can embed near the top of your main page. Put a note there for your visitors or readers to press play in order to hear a special message from you. This will give your site or blog a personal touch. Don’t make this audio play automatically however, as this will tend to annoy repeat visitors and may even drive them away! This type of audio should always be voluntary and not forced onto your visitors or readers.

Embedding an audio file doesn’t necessarily mean it has to be voice only. If you have a site that features music from Indie Artists or even your own music, you can feature this kind of music files in the same way as the audio files. Just make sure that the music you are featuring is either your own, podsafe music or you have the proper licensing to play the music. In this way, you will keep yourself from being fined for playing licensed music.

Wrapping up, adding audio files to your web site or blog doesn’t have to be a big chore or take a rocket scientist to make it work. With the plugins available for WordPress nowadays, and the flash technology for converting audio files easily, there is no reason why you can’t do it too!

If you have a PC and are interested in obtaining Web Audio Plus, you can pickup your own copy at The Personal Publisher!

10 E-Zine Publishing Mistakes To Avoid

Posted on 15 December 2008 by Dr. Robert White

[ad#degrees]

Publishing an E-zine is a lucrative business. More and more people are jumping on the E-zine publishing band wagon. Anyone can get an autoresponder and compile their own newsletters and e-courses to their subscribers at the cost of pennies. It is no surprise that E-zines are the choice of medium for list building and selling ad spaces.

However, there are a lot of mistakes made by newbies. Mistakes such as unsolicited e-mailing and not focusing on their core business are common mistakes committed daily. These must be addressed so that the profits are not wasted.

Therefore, I’ve written this post on how to overcome these common mistakes.

Sending E-zines from their Yahoo! or Gmail

Part of the temptation for newbies is to collect a group of e-mails and start mailing out from their own personal e-mails. At first this may seem quite harmless when you have about 10-20 people in your
list, but once your subscriber count exceeds 50 people, you are going to have a very big problem on your hand.

Firstly, you will have to handle people who newly sign up on your list manually. People who wish to unsubscribe needs to be manually removed as well – causing you massive administration problems.
The worst thing is most Internet service providers refuse to let you send bulk emails to many people at once. Of course, they set their own limits so that spammers won’t prey on the unsuspecting through their networks.

If you are not careful, you might even lose your subscriber list as well because your entire list sits within your computer’s hard drive. If you do not backup your computer You might wind up losing hundreds or thousands of subscribers that you spent all those time and sleepless nights building them. Don’t be a fool – make sure you get a good and reliable autoresponder to handle all the work for you.

Signing up people without getting them to opt-in

One of the biggest newbie mistakes when it comes to E-zines is signing up on other mailing lists without their permission. You think just because they are on one of my list, it automatically gives me permission to sign them up on some other list. Trust me – Unsolicited signups is a big no-no on the Net, and will get you in deep trouble! In the worst cast scenarios, you will be accused of spamming and you
will get your IP blacklisted on the ISPs.

You must do things the proper way. When you want to build your list or invite people to subscribe, make sure you mail them a proper invitation form (or landing page) and when they manually opt in again, then you will have their permission. Bear in mind that you must once again ‘convince’ them why they should opt-in to your new list and never ever take any shortcuts.

Not giving good or useful content

Some publishers are so obsessed with getting traffic and selling things that all they ever do in their E-zines is sell products and talk all about themselves. They use their E-zines to boast about how great they are and how good their JV partners are doing to the point that they bore their subscribers to death.

Another common problem is that the E-zine publishers load their E-zines with so many ads that it disrupts the reading pleasure of their readers. How would you like it if you were to buy the latest computer gadget magazine (if you are a guy) or the latest beauty magazine (for women) and dig through a haystack just to find the CONTENT page? I am sure you will either have a very hard time looking for the page number or you would cancel your subscription.

Content is king. Never diverge from that. But even more important than that – relevant content for your subscribers should be the main deal. What you must do for your subscribers is to provide useful content roughly 80% of your E-zine and leave the rest for paid ads. It is a healthy balance.

Not focusing on their business.

On the other side of the coin, there are many publishers who talk about everything under the sun by serving up powerful and useful content for their readers but they forget about the most important thing – making MONEY. Ultimately, publishing an E-zine is about making money. You can’t do it without promoting yourself or your business. In any business, remember that branding is the most important and you have to create that awareness in your E-zine while
providing good content at the same time.

Learn to use strategically placed affiliate links so that your prospects don’t feel as though they are being ‘sold to’. Talk about them first, then talk about a solution for them and then finally talk about YOUR solution for them. End everything with a call to action. That way, you will not be wasting traffic from your subscribers.

Publishing whenever they feel like it

Do you know that you should keep in touch with your subscribers as regularly as possible? There are millions of people on the Internet. If you don’t keep in touch with them, they will most likely forget all about you and your E-zine. Don’t ever let this happen to your business! It is easier to keep an existing customer or subscriber
compared to getting a brand new one!

Publishing regularly suggests to your readers that you are organized and you are able to meet deadlines and commitments. You must learn to set aside some time for your publishing schedule. A way to
accomplish this is to construct something like an E-course in advance. Then publish them everyday or every three days. Use this time to work on another product or come up with content for your E-zine.
Even if you don’t have any special content for your subscribers, try and stay in touch with them as regularly as possible. Even a simple “Hi” followed by a link to another person’s site (preferably an affiliate program) will also do the job just fine!

Neglecting the older archived issues

Part and parcel of the process of E-zine publishing is that you move from one issue to another. As you progress on, you will find that you have many back issues in your hard drive and sometimes, people tend to neglect the past issues as something outdated or useless.

Unless your information is completely obsolete, there are many things you can do with a back issue. You can offer your archived issue as a sample issue to prospective subscribers on your website or your blog.
People do read older issues and follow your journey. You’ll be able to get more of your visitors that are on the “fence” to join your E-zine, giving you a bigger list to market your products to.

Not only that, you will also attract a lot of new people looking to buy advertising space because they can check out your archived issues and check out how your ads worked out until now.

Forgetting about publishing your E-zine in RSS

RSS is one of the many ways people use to access your content without having them come directly to your website or your blog. Most of the time, E-zine publishers want their subscribers to subscribe directly through their e-mails or autoresponders because they can keep track of the size of their list.

However, neglecting RSS is very bad. Although you can’t cater to every single subscriber’s needs, enabling RSS is a way to get your readership across many different platforms. There are people out there who are lazy and would rather read everything through their feeds. Try your best to meet their needs.

Another advantage of publishing on RSS is that you’ll increase your readership and sales by bypassing all the email filters. If your e-mail for your E-zine is titled ‘make money online’ you can be sure the money word would be captured and thrown into the SPAM or BULK folder as fast as you can say the word ‘spam magnet’!

Therefore, you’ll also be able to make your E-zine’s copy more effective because you’ll be able to use all those ‘taboo’ words such as without worrying about your E-zine getting blocked.

Neglecting the ‘subscriber only’ privilege

There is a tendency for people to treat a subscriber just like any other guy on your mailing list or blog readers. If you asked me, I believe that E-zine subscribers are one of the most important
people on your list. They are people who are genuinely interested in your work and spend time reading it. You should pamper them and treat them with care because that is probably where the money is!
Since they usually follow you from the beginning to the end, you should give them a reward. For example, if you are a selling a product (for example WordPress blog themes) and you usually sell them for $17, maybe you can consider giving your loyal subscribers a $7 discount. They will appreciate it and will gladly refer others to subscribe to your list or even – start promoting as your affiliate because they have been given the special treatment.

Neglecting the personal touch

One of the problems of bulk mailing to many people at once is that we forget to be human. Very often, if I’m on the list of my friend who is an active Internet marketer and we happen to correspond on e-mail a lot, I will receive e-mails from him and e-mails from his autoresponder.
One glance of the e-mail and I can tell whether it is personally from him and whether he is sending out to a large group.

If you don’t know how to add the personal touch to your e-mail headlines, you are missing out on a lot of readers (sometimes, those who are your subscribers as well – they could be busy with other things on their mind). Always talk in a personal tone rather than selling your subscribers products all the time otherwise they will think you are just trying to grab their money.

Never offering any bonuses

Sometimes people forget to offer bonuses to their subscribers. They forget that once in a while, they should offer free gifts to entice them to stay on. You can also use bonuses to entice people to join as a new subscriber as well.

Try writing a free report – about the latest developments and offer them as a bonus. Tell them how much the report is worth by increasing the value your visitors place on your bonus by telling them how much it would be worth if you were to charge for it.

For example:
“I would normally charge $27 for this special report, but I am giving it away free to my loyal subscribers…” You would increase the perceived value of your bonus and make your subscribers feel pampered at the same time.

Never neglect this powerful method!

There are many mistakes committed by newbies, but the worst mistake that can ever happen is to repeat your mistakes over and over again. Don’t take this for granted. If you keep on committing mistakes, you will lose credibility in the eyes of your subscribers and joint venture partners (even if you are a seasoned E-zine publisher.
Always be vigilant and keep an eye out for blind spots that you may have missed out. Keep on refining your work and you can be sure that online riches will be heading your way.
