Tweet Your Live Show To Your Own Twitter Account

Posted on 08 May 2010 by Dr. Robert White

A couple of weeks ago, we rolled out a new script that would send a tweet out every hour of all of the live shows on Talkshoe at that time. A couple of days ago, we upped the time for the script to run and now, instead of every hour, it runs every 30 minutes to accommodate shows that may start at the quarter after mark. This script has proven useful and so, we have taken this idea to the next level.

Today, we added a new script to http://www.talkshoesupport.com that will allow you to see the live shows at any given time (when you visit the page) and then you have the option to click a Tweet This Now button to send a tweet to your very own Twitter Account and tweet the live show and it’s details to your followers.

This script, like it’s automated buddy, will screen out live shows that are not streaming. The main difference here is, that the list will automatically update every time you visit or refresh the page. So, if a show begins streaming, a button will appear for that show automatically.

Both of these scripts are based on the Talkshoe and Twitter API codes and are not programmed or ran by Talkshoe. For this reason, they will not be put on the Talkshoe web site at this time.

If you have any questions about these scripts or maybe want them for your own use, please let me know and I will discuss this with you.

Your Live Show Tweeted Automatically

Posted on 25 April 2010 by Dr. Robert White

In an effort to help hosts to promote their live shows, a small beta program has been put into place starting tonight that will will automatically, every hour on the hour, tweet out what shows are Live at the time the program runs. Here’s how it works:

If your show is scheduled to start at the top of the hour, say 9:00pm EST, and you are on and connected and ready to do your show, the tweet program will, at 9:00pm EST, run and your show, along with anyone else that is running a live show then at that time, will have a tweet sent out to Twitter to a special account.

@TalkshoeLive has been setup for this purpose and it is also setup that when you follow this account, your Twitter account will automatically be followed as well! In this way, you will be able to be easily notified when the live shows are appearing on Talkshoe!

Now, if your show begins on the half hour, say 8:30pm EST, then when the program runs at the top of the hour, and you are still doing your show, your live show will be tweeted along with all the other live shows still running at that time! So, if you have an extremely long episode one night, you might get a little extra promotion going your way!

We have placed a special widget at http://www.talkshoesupport.com that will continually update with all of the live shows and again, give you some extra promotion for your shows.

Each tweet contains the name of show, the call in information and a clickable link to take anyone to your Talkshoe Show Page to join your show!

We will work to add to this program and maybe bring out some other useful programs to help you with your promotional needs. As we do, we will be sure to keep you informed!

New Format For Talkshoe’s Top Shows Lists

Posted on 09 April 2010 by Dr. Robert White

As many of you already know, Myself and Bruce “Logan” Pringlemeir put out a Talkshoe Top Show List for Top Downloads and Top Live Callers every week. We have been limiting our lists to the Top 100 in each category (downloads and live callers) and will begin with the next list to be produced, to moving to the Top 250 Downloads and Top 250 Live Callers!

The Top 250 Downloads list will feature the top downloaded shows from a list of more than 3500 shows for that week. The Top 250 Live Callers list will feature the top shows with live callers (from both the phone and Talkshoe chat room) along with their respective number of Live Streamers (not figured into the live count). Remember, Live Streamers can come from a number of sources, including Facebook, the Dynamic Widget from your show page and other sources that can pickup your stream without the listeners actually calling into your show or using the Talkshoe chat room.

The Top Show lists are highlighted every week on Talkshoe Support LIVE! and on The New Media RoundTable.

You can pickup the updated Top Show Lists by visiting our Talkshoe Support Resource Site. The lists are updated every Sunday or Monday and a tweet is sent out through the @Talkshoe Twitter account as well as other Twitter accounts. Be sure to follow @Talkshoe, @Logansrunpod, @NewmediaRT, @TalkshoeSupport and @Robwhiteus to insure that you are kept up to date when the new lists arrive!

Want to see what the new format looks like? I thought you might:
03/28/2010-04/03/2010 Top 250 Downloads

03/28/2010-04/03/2010 Top 250 Live Callers – Public Shows

Podcaster Training: Start Your Own Forum – Interview with Patrick O’Keefe

Posted on 17 April 2009 by Dr. Robert White

[ad#forums]
Recently, there has been a lot of renewed interest in forums (formally known as Bulletin Boards) and there have been a lot of questions surrounding just how to do this. Well, our special guest tonight is Patrick O’Keefe, the author of Managing Online Forums (you can find a link to his book on Amazon at the top of this post) and he will go over just what it takes to start out in this new venture.

Patrick can be found on Twitter as @iFroggy in case you want to follow him.

Due to the complexity of this interview, please listen to it in the player below to make sure you get all of the information about this topic. It is far to complex to transcribe into the show notes.

Michelle Trent, @michelletrent on Twitter, has a special guest interview during her segment tonight as well.

If you don’t have a copy of Patrick’s book, be sure to click on the Amazon link above to get your own copy of Managing Online Forums.

WordPress Report #47 For The Week Of April 17th 2009

Posted on 17 April 2009 by Jeffro

[ad#podcastingdummies]
P2 Now In The Repository – Back in March, I let you know that P2 was on the horizon for self installed WordPress users and that it was already available for WordPress.com users. Fast forward to today and Prologue 2 is now on the WordPress.org theme repository. The theme features perks such as threaded comment display on the front page, in-line editing for posts and comments, real-time notifications and much more. http://www.wptavern.com/p2-officially-on-the-theme-repository

WordPress help CenterAlex King, who is most well known for his popular WordPress plugins and more recently, his Carrington theme framework, made a big announcement the other day regarding a project that his company Crowd Favorite has partnered with called the WordPress HelpCenter. he HelpCenter is not aimed at replacing forums, email, comment forms, or other means of support. Instead, you’ll be able to pick up the phone Mon-Fri between the hours of 9am-7pm Pacific time and give them a call to answer any WordPress questions you might have instead of waiting around on a forum for someone to reply. In fact, any phone call under 3 minutes is free. Check out my review of the helpcenter on WPCandy.com – http://wpcandy.com/articles/one-more-way-to-get-wordpress-help.html

Matt On TechCrunch –Matt Mullenweg was recently interviewed on TechCrunch.com in a video from the Amsterdam Next Web conference. In this interview, Matt explains why Twitter is not sucking the life out of blogging. He also chats about the acquisitions Automattic made in 2008 with a hint that more could be on the horizon. Lat but not least, Matt shares some details regarding the success of both WordPress.org and WordPress.com. – http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/04/16/interview-with-automattics-matt-mullenweg-blogging-is-not-slowing-down/

Plugin Pick Of The Week – DiggBar Killer – DiggBar Killer adds a little snippet of Javascript to your WordPress website to remove any frames or iframes, such as the Digg Bar, which are surrounding it. DiggBar Killer also has a (100% optional) annoy feature. You can choose to annoy users coming from digg.com by showing an obnoxious message. The default “annoy” folder comes with some ugly animated GIFs and a MIDI file, but can be easily customized using plain-ole HTML & CSS (no PHP knowledge required). http://ibot.tv/2009/04/13/digg-bar-killer-wordpress-plugin/

If you’re looking for more information regarding WordPress or just want to be part of a community centered around WordPress, please head on over to WPTavern.com. The forum has received a new paint job, advertising options are now open on the site and much more. Remember, the drinks are always on the house.

A Thank You Note!

Posted on 11 April 2009 by Dr. Robert White

[ad#twobeams]
I just wanted to take a minute to thank a few regulars to my show for their awesome work and attendance to my show, Podcaster Training. Each of these individuals play an integral part of making my show a success and I felt it was time they were recognized.

First and foremost, Patti Serrano, @iGrandma on Twitter, has been a huge part of my show, even back when we produced a show together more than 2 years ago. She now has her own shows she produces, such as Call Your Grandma and she still finds time to come on every Friday Night and give a segment on The Business of Podcasting.

Josh Budde, @JoshBudde on Twitter, has really blossomed and is not only producing a segment on Podcaster Training, but is producing several of his own shows and doing a great job too!

Jeff Chandler, @jeffr0 on Twitter, was my Co-Host for a short time and is now back in the saddle again with his ever popular WordPress Weekly show that airs on Friday Nights at the same time as my show. Jeff still takes some of his valuable time and records a segment for my show and my listeners are always looking forward to see what he has to say!

Michelle Trent, @michelletrent on Twitter, produces a segment on Social Media and can always find some unique sites for us to visit! She also produces her own shows and is still on every Friday Night with a new site for us!

Dave Cooper, @daveac on Twitter, is a regular on the show and our friend from the UK. He always has some great input about the topic of the night or about something happening in the New Media World and adds a great deal to the show! Dave is involved on some other shows on Talkshoe and produces his own video blog.

Bruce Turner, @blueridgebruce on Twitter, is another regular on the show and has filled in for me as a Guest Host and has added a great deal, even on short notice, like the video he sent me last week pertaining to the main topic of remote podcating. Bruce produces his own shows on Talkshoe and uStream and even does remote broadcasts for others.

Thank you all from Podcater Training! It is because of each one of you and the other listeners that make my show the success it is today!

When Life Gets In The Way

Posted on 19 March 2009 by Dr. Robert White

[ad#camstudioim]
In case you haven’t noticed, I haven’t been around on the social media scene much lately. No blog posts, no Twitter tweets, not much social interaction at all. I know this has some of you a little concerned (you’ve called me!) and so I thought I’d take a minute to try and explain my absence.

There’s a little thing called life that seems to creep in every now and again and well, recently, life has come up and plain smacked me on the back of the head! It started innocently enough, a small leak in the bathroom, whereabouts unknown, just a pool of water near the shower area. Mop it up and keep going, I thought, but then it would reappear again a short time later. Well, as luck would have it, one morning, while preparing to go to work, I noticed a small “tear” in the floor of the shower. Upon closer investigation, it was about 2 inches in length, so I got some RTV Sealant and repaired the hole. Low and behold, the water stopped appearing…for about three days. Then the water returned again, this time, with a vengence. I looked at my repair job and found the tear was now about 6 inches long. More RTV Sealant later, mission accomplished….for about three days. I was starting to see a pattern here, and then noticed that the tear was now almost a foot long. Time to call in the landlord. Fortunately, I rent from my parents. My Dad comes over, looks at the shower and then notices that the floor around the shower is “giving” more than it should. The next day, my Dad and Brother-in-law, come over and pull the shower enclosure and find that the floor beneath the shower is almost gone! Dad says that we have to replace, not only the shower, but the entire floor. Now the fun begins!

We began removing the flooring and subfloor from the bathroom, not an easy task. Following that, we found that the floor joists were almost none existant! I think you can see from here, why I haven’t been around much lately!

Well, now almost a week later, we have new joists installed, a new subfloor and floor and are patiently waiting for the new enclosure to arrive. I still have some painting to do (My Wife decided it would be a great time to remodel the bathroom, go figure) and the floor tile to install and hopefully, I will be back in the social media saddle again within a week or so. Of course, now that my Wife has caught the remodeling bug, I may have some lapses from time to time! :)

So that’s why I haven’t been around. I will be on my show, Podcaster Training tomorrow night and have already planned out the topic, just have to do the show notes. We’ll be talking about Casting Your Net For Listeners. Mainly, how to reel in more listeners.

See you tomorrow night!
