Over the past few weeks, we have covered the basics of podcasting, the history behind podcasting, pre-recording podcasts and going live the first time.
Tonight, we will discuss what happens after the show is over. Just because you have hit the terminate button and said your show is completed, doesn’t mean it stops there! If by now you haven’t realized it, there is more to your show than just setting it up and going live.
Ok, you’ve completed your show and stopped the recording, and what happens next is you start building community with your listeners. To do this, you move into your After Show. Your After Show can be as long or as short as you like it to be. This is the time that you can freely communicate with your audience and talk about things that you might not talk about during your show. The subject matter can be most anything that you will allow. Keeping in mind that you are still live, even though you aren’t recording, listeners can still hear what’s going on via the stream. Also, during your after show, you will make some new friends and maybe even bring some new listeners to your show.
Ok, the after show lasts maybe an additional hour or more and next, you need to gather your show notes and post them on your site or blog. You do have a web site or a blog for your show, don’t you? Posting your show notes, links you discussed and other items of interest on your blog or web site for your show, will help to build community too. This also keeps listeners coming back time and again and you can even post your recorded episodes for them to listen to and enjoy, even weeks after you have completed those episodes.
Finally, you want to start planning for your next show. If you host a weekly event, then make sure that you have your topics in order, links rounded up, and interviews you might have planned. The idea here is to have all your ducks in a row so that you can put on a more professional looking show and keep your listeners entertained and interested.
Once you have your next episode organized, you can relax a little and get ready to have more fun!

As many of you already are aware, I am on vacation this week in Rhode Island. I have brought with me a “remote studio” setup so that I can still produce the Podcaster Training Show this Friday at 8:00pm EST. For the past few days, I have been setting up the equipment and making the software ready, etc. to get to the live stream testing. I have been using Justin.tv for the past few weeks and after last weeks show, Justin.tv would not allow me to save the recorded show. BUMMER! After some time, I was able to pull the recording from the archives section, however, this still left viewers after the fact, unable to watch the last episode online (unless they know to go and watch the archives).
Well, in any event, I finally got the live stream testing completed today and Justin.tv STILL would not allow me to save the recorded episode. Since I like having the recorded episode ready for any one to view, this really can’t go on, so I am going to produce this weeks episode on Stickam.
When you visit http://www.newmediapro.tv, you will be able to watch the show and hear the audio, even participate in the chat room, WITHOUT having to go to wherever I happen to be broadcasting from. I will rework the Live Page to remove Justin.tv’s code and embed Stickam’s code in preparation for Friday Night’s Show.
I have been doing some testing on Stickam and they were next on my list to try out. So, I guess this week is good as any to try them out!
