Posted on 06 February 2009 by Jeffro

Sandbox Up For Sale – Scott Wallick, the guy behind the popular WordPress theme Sandbox announced earlier this week that he was going to sell the Plaintxt.org domain as well as the domain associated with the Sandbox theme. Scott states that he simply can not devote the time needed to continue development. Rumor has it that he already has a purchaser for the domains, I’ll keep you updated. – http://www.wptavern.com/sandboxplaintxt-goes-up-for-sale

WordPress 2.7.1 RC 1 Released – Ryan Boren announced on the WordPress Testers mailing list today that WordPress 2.7.1 RC1 has been released. So far, looks like a couple of bugs have been squashed with the potential for a few more before this version hits the public. I expect this version of WordPress to be released either on or shortly after Monday February 9th. – http://www.wptavern.com/wordpress-271-rc-1-released

WPTavern Business Thinktank – Due to popular demand, I have created a new section on the WordPress Tavern Forum called Business Thinktank. Many people operate businesses either on or around WordPress. Some deal with the GPL while others do not. There are many ways in which to operate a business and this section of the forum is for those currently in business or have an idea about a business they are thinking of starting. Please use this forum to discuss the GPL’s impact on your business, ideas for new businesses, existing business models, etc. – http://www.wptavern.com/wptavern-business-thinktank

Plugin Of The Week – Post Templates – Post Templates is a plugin that enables you to save posts as templates. For example, say every Friday you create a Round Up type of post with numerous headings and sections. Using this plugin, you can save that particular post structure as a template for that post every Friday allowing you to save time from copy and pasting the text every week. You can also create Page templates as well. – http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/post-template/

I will be giving away one Revolution site license courtesy of Brian Garder to one lucky registered member of the forum. In order to win the giveaway, simply register an account on the WordPress Tavern Forum. I will then place all of registered Member IDs into a random number picker. Whichever member ID is chosen will be the winner. The winner will be contacted by means of private message. If an ID is chosen which does not have an account attached to it, I will run the number picker again until a winner is selected. The winner will be announced next week on the Friday the 13th edition of WordPress Weekly.

How Poems Heal

Posted on 06 February 2009 by Marcella Glenn

typewriter1
Writing poems can be your life.
It’s an out-let of expression to others.
Some situations, in life, are painful.
They require you to sit down, and write
about them. It’s therapeutic while
energizing the healing process.

“How do I start writing a poem?”
You tapped a pen on the desk-top.

Simply, jot down what you’re feeling.
Don’t worry if the poem is free verse,
or another form. There are many
forms of poetry. Research
the various forms.

The goal, for now, is to pour-out
problems, issues, on paper. Use
a computer if it’s better for you.
Mold, re-arrange, your poems
when you’ve written a few.

I’ll write one. It’s off the top of
head. My poem is free verse.
Free verse is popular.

Element

Thunder lightens the sky
slams any in its path.

It stomps
looking over
your town and mine
for the next invasion.

Simply, write down what you feel.
This form of expression can be
painful, but it’s therapeutic. It
soothes the discomfort, and brings
joy.

The act of writing relieves the mind
of tension, gives it a channel for
negative energy.

The loss of jobs, rising gas prices,
late stimulus checks, or any number
of issues can pull you into frustration.
Sometimes, worse.

Write it down, include everything that’s
bothering you. Start with the most
nagging problem.

Look at the words. Harmless words.
Put them in context. Think. One
problem at a time. How do you feel
after writing them down? Give it a
few days, if necessary.

What steps can you take to make
your life better, happier? Remember,
there’s no need to concern
yourself over what can’t be changed.

“If I can’t change it, why try?” You
rolled your eyes.

It’s about not giving up. Make
adjustments in your life.

You, actually, took the step to
writing poems. The one step is a
major accomplishment. Now, move
around an issue that can’t be changed.

Fill your time with pleasant tasks.
Keep your mind occupied, stuffed
with matters within your control.

Write as many poems as needed.
This is your time. You don’t have to
critique them. They’re for your eyes
unless you want others to see them.
Besides, you can, always, critique
them later.

Dig deep. If, for one reason or another,
it’s too hard, stop. Come back the next
day, or take toddler steps toward healing.

Writing a poem is an alternative to self
healing, not a replacement for a health-care
provider.

Writing poems, to self heal, is therapeutic.
The negative feelings are spun
into stronger, happier, ones.

Another Poem

Secret

Two weeks passed,

In my new house.

Every morning at four a.m.

A child’s voice was heard,

Male, maybe female.

Sang out,

‘Find me, find me, if you can.’

I set my clock’s alarm,

To not wake up.

I asked for Aunt Bea’s help–

Aunt Bea is sensitive.

She rubbed hands across walls,

Finding the spot–

Aunt Bea broke through.

Surprise caught us,

When we found a room.

Antique toys,

Child’s wheel-chair–

Remains,

What other secrets?

What Is A Domain Name?

Posted on 06 February 2009 by Dr. Robert White

For the best prices on domain names and web hosting, visit GraiteSites Services!
domain-names
A domain is a name that identifies IP addresses on the internet. The domain name Yahoo.com represents about fifteen (15) IP addresses. Domain names are used to identify Web pages. For example, in the URL http://www.gohome.com/index.html, the domain name is gohome.com.

You register a domain name by registering with a domain name services registrar. The domain name industry is regulated and overseen by ICANN, which is an organization responsible for providing standards and procedures for certifying companies as domain name registrars.

Domain name registration has grown over the years. Network Solutions was the first domain name registrar to ever provide such a service. That was over ten years ago but today there are many accredited registrars. Only a domain name registrar is permitted to access and modify the master database domains that are on InterNIC servers. The fee is determined by the registrar as far as getting a domain name and some registers have special domain name packages.

Do You Really Need a Domain Name?

You use a domain name to create an identity on the World Wide Web and domain names can also be used for branding purposes, such as Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc. In picking a domain name, the title shouldn’t stray far from what your company is all about. This will allow you to market your web-site as a subsidiary of your business and put your domain name on business cards and advertisements.

Once you select a domain name, you must register it with a domain name registrar. This is a task you can do easily. Many ISPs offer a complete package that includes hosting and the registering of the domain name for you. Fees probably will include a one time set-up fee for all of the backend technical work that needs to be accomplished. Then pay your service provider a monthly, semi-annual or annual fee for Web site hosting services.

Many domain registrar services have competent online tools to help you get your domain name and hosting site up and running.

Most domain registrar services also offer web hosting services as well. Be sure to check when registering your domain name and this will enable you to keep everything under the same roof!

GraiteSites Services offers domain name registration and web hosting services along with a variety of other services to make getting your piece of the Internet easy!

Lulin The Green Comet On February 24th

Posted on 06 February 2009 by Jeffro

This is cool. On the morning of February 24th 2009, a green comet known as Lulin may become visible to the naked eye. The Nasa website contains three dates that track the comment leading up to February 24th as well as sky maps.

Feb. 24th: Closest approach! On this special morning, Lulin will lie just a few degrees from Saturn in the constellation Leo. Saturn is obvious to the unaided eye, and Lulin could be as well. If this doesn’t draw you out of bed, nothing will.

Will you be out looking for Lulin on the morning of Feb 24th? I’ll try to get out and see it myself. Just hope the weather cooperates.
