Posted on 11 November 2008 by Dr. Robert White

[ad#lifelock]
There are a lot of people who think that this is a criminal act that just involves the theft of numbers, however, when it comes to identity theft; it is something that involves much more. You may even that the criminal will even try to become you.

Most of the time, identity theft requires the use of credit card or check fraud, but you will find that there are many other instances that could include things like illegal immigration, blackmail, crime or just revenge.

When it comes to the pain and suffering that you will go through when you identity has become compromised you will find that it can simply ruin your life for months or years to come. You will find that your credit will never be the same again.

Often, people will get your credit cards and even open bank accounts in your name and then rack up a good amount of debt all at someone else’s expense. You will find that they will keep the expensive things or they may even sell it for cash after awhile. For some, loans have been taken out in another’s name and it has ruined the credit of many. Keep in mind that id is required for most things like loans, but the small amount of work that is needed to alter someone’s identity can only have a big pay off at someone else’s expense.

Your credit and good name will be destroyed in the act, and most of the time the criminals are not caught easily. You will want to make sure that you take measures to protect yourself from identity theft, but also that you use a little bit of common sense when it comes to things like your personal information.

What do you mean by a ‘secured credit card’?

Posted on 11 November 2008 by NMP Network Administrator

[ad]
Secured credit cards are another very popular breed of credit cards. Secured credit cards, as their name suggests, are secured. Well, they are secured for the credit card supplier, really. Secured credit cards require you to open an account with the credit card supplier and maintain some cash balance in that account. This cash balance acts as a security for the supplier of secured credit card. Your credit limit is dependent on the amount you hold in the account that you have started with the supplier of secured credit card. This is generally between 50 to 100% of your account balance. So in that sense, secured credit cards are not really credit cards (since they don’t offer you any credit really). For this reason, the secured credit cards are sometimes also referred as debit cards.

Why is the concept of secured credit cards so important?

As we know, credit card debt is a raging problem which is caused by improper usage of credit cards. Such people end up spoiling their credit rating to an extent where they cannot get another unsecured credit card (that is what we call the commonly used credit cards). Even after they have paid off their dues and cleared their debt, their credit rating still haunts them. For such people, secured credit cards are a boon. Secured credit cards present them with an opportunity to not only get a credit card in the first place but also to improve their credit rating by using the secured credit card in a disciplined way (paying their dues in time, controlled spending, utilizing a maximum of 70% credit limit etc etc). As they continue with these good habits, their credit rating gradually improves over a period of time. Hence secured credit cards provide them with the means of rectifying their mistakes (credit rating).

It’s not just the people with bad credit rating who go for secured credit cards. Some people go for secured credit cards because they don’t want to bother themselves with the bills etc for credit cards. They don’t like to even fill-up application forms for unsecured credit cards.

Then there are some who just don’t like to borrow money (even if it means borrowing from a credit card supplier by using their credit card). However, such people are very rare to find.

Some people just go for secured credit cards because they have heard a lot of horrifying stories on credit card debt – maybe someone from their family or one of their friends was devastated by credit card debt and they don’t want to repeat the mistake. So they decide to go for a secured credit card.

Whatever be the reason for going for it, the secured credit cards are surely popular too.

Posted on 11 November 2008 by Dr. Robert White

A few weeks ago, I clicked on a link from one of my Twitter pals that lead me to this article from The Blogger & Podcaster Media Network. What caught my eye was the fact that they are building this network to help the little guys, like you and me, to make an income from your blogging and podcasting efforts.

I know many of you are just doing this as a hobby and don’t expect to make much of anything in the form of income, however, wouldn’t it be nice to make a few extra bucks out of your hobby?

The Blogger and Podcaster Media Network is currently offering free signups to join the network. They also have some other great benefits that is listed in the article on their web site. The free signups may go away after December 31st, 2008, so you should get over there and get your name in now!

I was just recently accepted into the network and they have a launch date in 2009 to get this off the ground. I don’t know if it will work or not, but I am willing to give it a shot since it’s free and not costing me anything to try it out!

Check out the article with all the details at http://www.bloggerandpodcaster.net/BPMN Article.htm

Different Web Conferencing Services and Features

Posted on 11 November 2008 by Dr. Robert White

[ad#skype]
Web conferencing makes business life easier. With the web conferencing technology, business cut their travel costs and other logistics expenditure by cutting down face-to-face meetings and replacing it with web-based conferences. Web conferencing enables people physically and geographically separated to conduct meetings, presentations, consultations and collaborations.

There are numerous web conferencing vendors in the market nowadays offering new features and services. Here are some of the common features of web conference programs:

• Web conferencing programs use common applications like Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Adobe Flash Player to create graphic presentations with enhanced audio and video streaming. For PowerPoint presentation sharing, the presentation is compressed in the presenter’s computer and then sent to the server. The server then sends it to all the participants, caching it in the presenter’s computer. This allows the presenter to change the presentation slides.

• File sharing, document and application sharing allows the presenter to share a selected document with the participants. Documents or files created in Word, Excel, layouts in graphics program can be shared. File sharing is the same as the PowerPoint presentation sharing.

• Web page viewing allows the presenter and the participants to launch a browser and make it visible to everyone. Web page viewing is mainly used to check a competitor’s website, testing of the new website with technical and creative teams, and conducting software product tours.

• The moderator can also hand off the control of the flow of the discussion. One of the participants may run the meeting.

• Desktop sharing is also another great feature of web conferencing. Desktop or screen sharing allows the presenter to display everything that’s on his computer screen to be seen by the participants in real time. The presenter can also allow his desktop to be controlled by any of the other participants.

• Whiteboard encourages brainstorming and other on-the-spot creative process. With this feature, web conferencing provides text and drawing capability. Participants can illustrate or outline projects or ideas in the whiteboard.

• Most web conferencing providers have a window dedicated in viewing the roster of attendees of the conference.

• There are also backup systems. In case the first server fails, the conference is seamlessly moved to a second server. All the meeting materials are stored so that the important data will not be lost.

• Recording allows online archiving of the actual meeting. This is a reliable source or point of reference. Only the moderator determines who are allowed to access the recording after the conference.

• Instant messaging is also an important communication feature offered by web conferencing vendors.

• Aside from text chat or instant messaging, audio communication is in the form of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). This allows users to make telephone calls over the world wide web.

• For the security of the conference, web conference providers are using Secure Sockets Layer for full meeting security. Meeting attendees require a conference security code to access both live conferences and recorded meetings.

Web conference service providers are promoting different kinds of feature for their conference products. Knowing the right web conferencing program to use would rely on the objective for using this kind of program. Once the need and the ability are drawn, then the solution will be easier to find.
