Possible UI Changes – Ryan Boren recently announced on the developers prologue that they have received some feedback which may or may not make it into the final version of WordPress 2.7. The feedback is as follows:
Move Taxonomy stuff out of Utilities menu to a top-level level. Some suggested menu names: Meta, Taxonomy, Organization.
Change “Templates” menu name back to “Design” or “Themes”
Add drag-and-drop back to Widgets admin. Make it easier to move widgets between sidebars.
Support having custom side bars for different page types. Lots of dissatisfaction with 2.5 widgets admin. Part of that is due to limitations in our JS libraries at the time 2.5 was done. Part is due to design. Showing one sidebar at a time and switching with a dropdown makes it possible to support lots of sidebars but many miss being able to see all sidebars at once and drag and drop between them.
Folks looking forward to dashboard drag and drop. Would be great if we can make it as configurable as the new edit post page.
Some would like expand on hover in the menus in order to save clicks.
Some want the Author column in Posts page brought back

In Depth Look At WordPress 2.7 – Earlier this week, I published a detailed article which took an in-depth look at the latest developmental version of WordPress 2.7. Some things worthy of noting is that there will be a new user interface. The write panel have received a major overhaul now allowing users to drag and drop elements just as you could in WordPress 2.3. You’ll now also be able to browse for plugins and install them from the administration panel. – http://weblogtoolscollection.com/archives/2008/09/02/first-look-at-wordpress-27/
WordPress.com Reaches 4 Million Blogs – WordPress.com has recently surpassed the 4 million hosted blogs mark. Congratulations to Automattic and company for this new milestone. – http://www.blogherald.com/2008/09/04/wordpresscom-passes-4-million-blogs/
Plugin Of The Week – Post Ticker – Displays a scrolling list of post titles and excerpts with links to posts. Configurable options include selecting the type of posts to display: 1) Most Popular (via Wordpress.com Stats Plugin) 2) Most Commented 3) Most Recent 4) User Specified, and filters for specific categories and total numbers of posts to display. Excerpts are automatically created for those posts which do not already have one. – http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/post-ticker/
