Plan B gets an A+!!
As most of you might have been aware, Talkshoe had a power outage and was without service for around 6 hours this evening. By the time 8:00pm EST rolled around, still no Talkshoe, so I switched to my Plan B…using uStream exclusively to broadcast Podcaster Training, my Friday Night Talk Show.
Since you should always have a Plan B, especially when others are depending on you to be there. My normal method is to be on Talkshoe AND uStream at the same time to stream audio and video at the same time. In this way, I can have my show podcasted and on video for training too. Tonight though, with Talkshoe being down, I had to make a decision to go straight video in order to insure the show would air as scheduled.
My Plan B was designed as the following:
Use my MagicJack VOIP Phone Service to call into my dedicated 250 person conference phone bridge.
The 250 person conference phone bridge is provided by Quality Conference Call (for free).
My MagicJack Phone is connected to my Alesis MultiMix 8 Mixer, so that I can broadcast my audio from the conference bridge into uStream.
Login to uStream and start the broadcast.
Start the Conference Call Management Web Interface (to monitor the phone lines).
Produce the show!
Needless to say, my Plan B worked very, very well. The results were better than expected and Plan B will put into a Reserve Status until needed again.
As long as Talkshoe is back up and running next week, we will be back in business, the usual way. Rest assured, if this happens again, I can always pull Plan B back out and use it any time!
