Tip #23: Contact creditors as well as credit bureaus when correcting inaccuracies in your credit report

When debtors find mistakes on their credit report, they often only contact the credit bureaus. While this is the most effective way to resolve the issue, you should in some cases contact the creditors whose account has caused a ding on your credit report. This can help future dings and resolve problems faster.

Consider an example: Let’s say that you were late sending a credit card payment two months ago because you were sick. The late payment is listed as a ding on your credit report even though you have paid it already. You should contact the credit bureau in order to get the error removed.

However, if you notice that the same credit card company has you listed as having late payments three months when you paid on time, then it is time to contact the credit company and ask how to resolve the problem.

The information reported about you to credit bureaus should be accurate – if it is not, then the credit company should work to make sure that they correct the problem so that it does not happen again. You have an advantage in this – the credit company, unlike the credit bureau, depends on your business for their money.

This means that the credit company (or any other bill company presenting inaccurate information about you) is well motivated to correct the problem or risk losing you as a client.

If you find that a company consistently reports inaccurate information about you to credit bureaus, consider making a formal complaint to the company about it or switch companies. There is no reason why one company’s poor organization should cost you your good credit score.

The Move from Audio to Video: Is it the Right move?

Posted on 16 July 2008 by Dr. Robert White

Ok, so you’ve been podcasting for some time now and you have just discovered the new world of video. Now, you have a decision to make…or do you? You went out and purchased your webcam, got the special software to do the fancy things on the screen, got everything setup and running, and then you think…what do I do now? Do I go ahead and keep podcasting adn start producing live video shows too? Can I do this both at the same time, thus saving me some time and energy in the process? All great questions.

Let’s assume for a minute that you aren’t just producing podcasts (like pre-recorded) but are doing live podcasting (like on Talkshoe or BlogTalkRadio). This brings up another question…do you have enough resource on your computer to handle two live streams at the same time! If you cannot answer yes, that you have enough resources, then you probably won’t be able to make it happen without a lot of technical glitches appearing on your shows.

On the other hand, if you can make it happen, are you prepared to promote your new live video show, just like you had to with your original podcasts, in order to build up and audience there too?

What if you really want to go video, but then just go back to podcasting your audio. Will your listeners from your live podcasts follow you to video? Some will, but for the most part, in my experience, most won’t. If your listeners are like most, they won’t even respond to inquiries that you put out asking them what they think! I don’t believe this is becasue they just don’t like you, it’s more that they don’t want to get involved. That seems to be the mentality of most of today’s listeners.

So, all you can do at this point, is follow your own heart. A friend of mine told me that recently when I was contemplating this very issue. In fact, that’s what prompted this blog post!

So, to sum it up, if you feel that moving to video is the right move for you, and you are prepared to basically start over again, then like Nike says, Just Do It! (I think they still say that)

As for my contemplation, I will be making a descision before Friday this week! Watch this space for details!
